Math Activities for Thanksgiving

The days before Thanksgiving break can be an opportunity to do something a little different and fun. Sometimes the schedule is changed, some students might be absent, or something else throws things off just a bit.

Be ready for the days before Thanksgiving break and keep students engaged with these activities! These are best suited for middle school math classes.

Equations Practice

Practice one or two step equations with this activity. Each equation reveals a world record involving Thanksgiving food.

Two versions are included so you can choose the one best suited for your students.

Fall Personality Test

Practice plotting points on a coordinate plane with a twist! First students take a personality test to see if they are a fall person. Then they graph points using different colors according to their personality.

Choose from 1st quadrant or all 4 quadrants. These look great displayed on a classroom wall!

Thankful Math Stations

This activity allows students to practice math and gratitude. They visit stations to solve problems and write things they are thankful for.

Three versions of math problems are included: fraction & decimal operations, order of operations, and two-step equations.

Order of Operations

Really put your students’ order of operations skills to the test with this fun practice activity. Each problem they solve reveals a fact about the biggest pumpkin pie ever!

Integer Operations

Students love coordinate graphing pictures! This one requires them to add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers to get their ordered pairs. Then they graph the ordered pairs to reveal a plate and silverware. As an extension, they can add their favorite food using their own ordered pairs and problems.

Thanksgiving Banner

Get students thinking about what they are thankful for! They each get to decorate their own piece of this banner. Together all the pieces form a 7-foot long banner to display for everyone to see!

This works great right before Thanksgiving break or for early finishers in November.

Math Bulletin Board

This bulletin board design gives lots of reasons to be thankful for math. Students can also add their own! It works great around Thanksgiving and November.

I love activities that are engaging and memorable for students. I hope these gave you some ideas for your classroom leading up to Thanksgiving!
