Favorite Halloween Math Activities for Middle and High School
I love using a theme to add engagement to an activity. During the fall, Halloween can add a little excitement to practice exercises. Below are some of my favorite Halloween math resource ideas for middle and high school students! These engaging ideas will get students operating with integers, solving equations, finding area, simplifying expressions, and more!
Integer Operations
Practice working with integers with these mystery graphs! Students must solve problems to reveal ordered pairs and then graph the ordered pairs to see the picture. The pumpkin is for integer addition & subtraction, and the ghost is for integer multiplication & division.
Simplifying Fractions
Practice simplifying and finding equivalent fractions with this coloring worksheet.
Spooky Math Booklets
These interactive Halloween-theme math booklets are perfect for keeping middle schoolers engaged throughout October! They include fun activities for ratios, order of operations, graphing ordered pairs, and fraction operations.
Two Step Equations
With this puzzle, students must solve two-step equations that include integers, decimals, and fractions. They match the equations with the solutions to form a ghost.
Transformation Tasks
Practice different types of transformations with these 8 Halloween tasks! These are perfect for bell ringers, exit tickets, or early finisher activities in 8th grade or high school Geometry.
Proportional Relationships
Practice multiple representations of proportional relationships with a Halloween twist! Included are 4 tasks to push students to make connections between stories, graphs, tables, equations, and the constant of proportionality.
Ratios and Area
This challenging task will really make your students think about ratios and area! They must figure out how to color the candy corn to create a given ratio.
Identifying 2D Polygons
This fun coloring activity challenges students to identify polygons. They color the haunted house based on their understanding of 2D figures!
Scientific Notation
Students practice multiplying and dividing in scientific notation as they learn interesting facts about Halloween!
Linear Relationships Tasks
These Halloween math tasks will get your students thinking about linear functions! Students must complete the stories, graphs, tables, and equations as they make connections with multiple representations.
Composite Area
A spooky challenge for calculating areas of composite figures made of rectangles, triangles, trapezoids, parallelograms, and more.
Multi-Topic Practice
Students love these Haunted House math tasks! They use a floor plan to problem solve, and you can choose the topics that work best for your classes. With printable and digital versions, these are great for early finishers, extra credit, or just a fun practice!
Algebraic Expressions
Students get practice with combining like terms, distributing, and finding equivalent expressions with this spooky mystery coloring picture!
Integer Operations Puzzle
Students practice adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers with this fun activity. As they solve, they arrange the pieces to create a ghost!
Geometric Transformations
Students practice translations, rotations, and reflections as they transform figures and decorate these pumpkins.
Order of Operations
As students simplify these tricky order of operations problems, they will learn interesting facts about Halloween!
Greatest Common Factors
Students must find the greatest common factor of each pair of numbers to solve this Halloween coloring worksheet!
Need an engaging Halloween activity for a specific topic? Below are a couple of resources to help you create your own (without spending a ton of time)!
